I'd rather have Obama's response than China's...

http://www.aolnews.com/world/article/la ... r/19563280

"We don't have proper oil cleanup materials, so our workers are wearing rubber gloves and using chopsticks."

"...40 oil-skimming boats and about 800 fishing boats were also deployed to clean up the spill."

-as opposed to 6000 skimming vessels, 25,000 volunteers and a 20 billion dollar damage fund to boot !!

kir, I started to ask where the hell you got your numbers of 6000 skimming boats in the Gulf oil spill clean up...

See The June 30 Times-Picayune article which says, " According to (a) most recent estimate, 433 vessels are collecting oil from the runaway oil well, but only a third of them are designed specifically for oil skimming. In the meantime, vessels that could be used to clean up the massive amounts of oil are being blocked by a sea of (government) red tape. There are 850 skimmers in the southeast United States and 1,600 nationwide..."

...but then I realized that you were reading AOL (America On Line) News. I should have guessed you were an AOL customer!!

Sorry ucanit...brain fart on my end.

I meant 6000 vessels, not just skimmers...
...and actually this was an AP article posted on multiple sites. I happened to be searching on BING when I stumbled across it. I also went to the fair and balanced FOX News...but since it didn't have Obama in it...they didn't even mention it.

Here's some more info by the numbers:

6,850: Total number of vessels assisting in containment and cleanup efforts, including skimmers, tugs, barges, and recovery vessels.

580: Number of oil skimmers deployed to protect the Gulf coastline.

46: Number of oil skimmers operating in the vicinity of the well.

117: Number of aircraft in use, helping to track moving oil and assist ships below.

330: Number of controlled burns that have been carried out to remove oil from the ocean surface.

1,525: Number of National Guard troops from Gulf Coast states active in the response effort.

17,500: Number of National Guard troops authorized by the Obama administration to be deployed in response to the crisis.

46,000: Number of personnel currently working to protect and clean up the Gulf shoreline and wildlife.

3.12 million: Feet of containment boom deployed to contain the spill. An additional 816,000 feet of containment boom is ready for use.

6.16 million: Feet of sorbent boom deployed to contain the spill. An additional 2.32 million feet of sorbent boom is ready for use.

Looks like my figure for volunteers was a little off as well...but on the low side...

I stand by what I said...This is much better than "rubber gloves and chopsticks". No ?
