WestTx, those were great. I was allways hooked on Doo Wop, and I am probably the only person from our generation that didn't like most of what the Beatles were making. I did like the Stones and the Animals, expecially "House of the Rising Sun". I am getting hooked on YouTube.

This song used to get play in Detroit because Billy signed with Motown, and I haven't heard it in 40 years until today.

Etta came on stage for a couple of songs and stole the show. There seems to be a contriversy between Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James that I don't quite understand.

I think this is the greatest male voice, although not his best song. I prefer "Everything I have is Yours".

You guys are the experts on posting links to stuff, I am still trying to figure it out
As far as this music topic, you all remember when music was music, top 40 tunes that everyone listened to, enjoyed and spent a dime on to put in their collection.

Before the days of even "labeling" music. Let's see, is this country, pop, Motown, rock, ska, reggae, alternative, funk, new age, etc...etc... etc....
It was all about where it ended up on the top 40 most listened to charts...

Some of my favorite songs growing up as a redneck white boy from the plains were from such artists as the Temptations, the Shi-lites, the Supremes, James Brown, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Delphonics, and, hell, all of you add on to the list as you remember....

Two of the all time songs that stand out for me personally as real tear jerkers, and heart string pullers are these....
"Have you seen her"? By the Temptations. And "Me and Mrs. Jones, which I believe was originally done by Billy Paul

Gotta go for now, starting to get tears in my eyes.......Mark

One other sidenote...my hometown was the boyhood home for one man named Glenn Miller....he spent some boyhood days there, graduated from my high school, went to the University of Colorado, and then went on to serve his country, and make some pretty fine music of his own that is still played, known, and loved by millions.....

Outstanding. Prysock's sorta reminds me of Rawls...

Mark! Hell yes, cuz you could dance a mean string bean with Little Anthony and the Imperials! Here's a medley dedication for you!

Glenn Miller? Like the Band! I got a number of his WW-II cuts... God rest his soul:

WestTx, I wasn't going to throw this one out there until you came up with Glen Miller. I seem to remember Tommy Dorsey having a TV show and starting ever program with this great song.

Of course Patsy Cline was my favorite female singer, but here is another I liked.

As a former "frustrated Rock'nRoll Star" and a musician who grew up on the same songs you guys have been posting; I first played on stage professionally (fourth-chair tenor saxophone - 1965) with "The New Tommy Dorsey Orchestra" starring Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Jr.; later I played music with Richie Havens, Al Green, Kenny Rogers, Doc Watson and my band (The Brotherhood) used to "swap sets" with Alabama...back in the day. Can ya'll imagine the memory trip this thread has sent me on? Somebody roll one...

ucanit.....fly in and spend a weekend at my friends studio....My son is starting a band, and they want to highlight funk and soul music...He brought me out of retirement to play the bass, and we need some brass in there! My next door neighbor broke out his alto sax and started blowin' in it again, but we sure could use the tenor one to carry through those smooth bridges, and transitions.........

And, have you checked out that new documentary called Young at Heart ? Brought a few tears to my eyes...and always remember, I think music is a lot like sex....people can enjoy it right up until the time they die.

And in our case, as musicians, we can even play it that long too! I like to jam with guys my own age, play some of the oldies we all know, and grew up with. But, I was amazed by the compliments, or comments I got from my sons group, who thought I could still play some mean licks.....And those are "kids" half our age.....

A one and a two...../././././././
